Chrobry Embankment – the heart of the Szczecin skyline
The Chrobry Embankment is Szczecin’s most recognizable observation deck – about half a kilometer of representative avenues and stairs elevated above the Oder River, offering panoramic views of the port, Lasztownia and bridges.
They were built in the early 20th century on the site of the former Fort Leopold, on the initiative of the mayor Hermann Haken – hence their former name Hakenterrasse. Architect Wilhelm Meyer-Schwartau was responsible for the project.
Today, the Chrobry Embankment is not only a “postcard” sight, but also a great place for a stroll, a coffee with a view of the ships, or an evening outing, when the illuminated edifices of the National Museum and the Provincial Office create one of the most beautiful city panoramas in Poland.
